Tying Flies with CDC by Leon Links Largely a collection of European tyers' flies. The book highlights the material, development stages and history. Links selects different tyers and writes about each fly. An insight into how the tyer developed the patterns is given along with a history of the fly and how some of the flies are fished. Dry Fly Patterns For the New Millennium By Poul Jorgensen and the CFFCM: This is the first installment of Flies for the Year 2000. As part of this display at the CFFCM, over 1800 patterns from nearly 800 tyers from all over the world submitted patterns. These were then photographed and printed in a book. Contains many interesting, unusual patterns. Intro by Dave Brandt, Jim Kruhl and Paul Dahlie executive director of the CFFCM. Fishy's Flies by Jay Fishy Fullum: Fishy is a regular on the show circuit and is a columnist for Fly Tyer Magazine. His articles always contain interesting, new and innovative patterns with wonderful illustrations. This book is a collection of some of his favorite flies. Many useful ideas are explained here such how to make saltwater shrimp with drinking straws and his famous swimming/kickboard foam hopper. Spey Flies and Dee Flies: Their History and Construction by John Shewey. Written by one of my FFF pals, this is the first and only book about Spey flies. Contains many antique patterns from Scotland as well as modern designs from Oregon. Also has section on materials, methods and how to construct these unique flies. Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon Fly Fishing guide by Barry and Cathy Beck. Very nice travel guide to PA. Contains many of the top streams with a description of the streams and what to expect. Beautiful photos and great layout from one of the most famous couples in fly fishing. The Becks take us on a tour of the Keystone State, sharing its history, trout rich waters, insect hatches, tackle, flies, local lodging and fly shops, and more. From remote back country brook trout streams to the historic limestone streams known to trout anglers throughout the world, Pa has a lot to offer the fly fisher. Price $22 PB.

The authors examine and select patterns from all over the world and gather them together in one book. My Fly Patterns, Materials and Techniques by Bill Skilton Bill Skilton's new book is the best I have seen in ages! Wow! If you are looking for cutting edge trout flies and bass stuff, don't miss this one. Bill Skilton has been an Orvis contract tyer for years and his early mentors are no less than fishing legends like Vince Marinaro and Ed Koch. From Field to Fly, The Fly Tyer's Guide to Skinning and Preserving Game by Scott Seymour. It is about time someone wrote this sort of book.. Each year around hunting season I get about 10 million emails asking me how to skin a bird, deer or tan a hide. This book explains all of that stuff. If you hunt or keep game then you need this book. Contains many fly patterns to use also. The best part is the price: $10.00

 

 

 

 

 

 

Matching Mayflies by Dave Hughes. It seems that learning to match mayflies often require 3 or 4 degrees in bugology before you can begin to understand half of the latin used. Dave Hughes takes and simplifies much of the jargon and puts things into terms we all can understand. He also breaks each of the stages of insects down into various patterns and shows how to tie each. There now that wasn't so hard was it?

Nymph fly Tying Techniques by Jim Schollmeyer. This book looks at nymphs and shows specific methods of how to tie them. Federation of Fly Fisher's Pattern Encyclopedia: This book contains over 1600 different patterns from some of the world's top fly tyers (including several tied by me!). Edited by former FFF President, Al Beatty and his wife Gretchen, this is a very well done book. Sections contained in the book include: dry flies, nymphs, stoneflies, egg patterns, salmon and steelhead flies, bass flies and saltwater patterns. Photographs by Jim Schollmeyer.
